The drums came in on day 4 and it was pure magic. Jon's friend, Rob, brought so much life to the tracks. It's funny how after the first day I'm like, 'This track sounds great!', but then with every new part that comes in I'm like, 'Okay, NOW it sounds great!' And then my mind gets blown all over again. Noah Needleman stopped by the studio with his guitar, mandolin, and banjo. He makes everything he touches sound more tasty. Like you just want to munch on the tracks he lays.
Noah left his lap steel behind to let me play with. Jon nearly had a conniption. We laid down some super cool vibes, then we hit the vocals pretty hard into the wee hours of the night. Jon likes to sing with his hands behind his head. Savannah likes to sing really pretty. Chelsea likes to giggle in between takes. Troy likes to listen with his hands behind his head.
Great things happened in the studio today. Not by me, but by Savannah under the guidance of Jon being captured by Troy. It truly is a team effort. My job is to sit on the bench and say, "Yeah, I love it". See? Everyone has a part to play. I really am so happy with how the cello parts turned out. Savannah Jo is a boss!
Now I know from the pictures that it would appear that Savannah is the only person playing all the parts (and she probably could and the record would sound amazing) but days 3, 4, and 5 will see some new faces with other talents. Just know that it's going to be really good. I can't wait for you to hear it.
